Since 24 February, 2022, many Ukrainians have been fleeing from their home country to Switzerland, among other countries. By the summer, there could be up to 50,000 people looking for protection in Switzerland, according to the Secretary of State for Migration (SEM). On behalf of the Department for Secondary and Vocational Education (MBA), EB Zurich has been tasked with implementing the following measures for the integration of young Ukrainians into Swiss schools:
1. German as a foreign language is a short, intensive course designed for young people from the Ukraine
For young people from Ukraine who have already been admitted to secondary schools, EB Zürich is offering intensive German courses from April 19th, during the spring break. Another programme providing social support rounds off the course.
2. Learning Assessments
In admission interviews, EB Zurich assesses the young refugees’ level of proficiency in German, English and mathematics, thus enabling the young Ukrainians to be placed in a suitable programme of education and training.
3. START! 4U
The “START!” vocational training course has been expanded with the “START! 4U”module. This is aimed at Ukrainian refugees between the ages of 16 and 21 who have already had some schooling and education, and prepares them for entry to a secondary school.
